One of my perpetual sources of concern is how people in this country who in their youth will swear heaven and earth that they will keep public trust get transformed into cantankerous thieves as they grow and become "big men" and elders in our society. Give us anything of public trust and, I assure you, we will devour it until the whole society becomes penniless regardless of our academic, economic or social standing. Wannan bala'i, wannan bala'i, Allah ka mana maganinsa.
What do we tell God as we pray 5 times a day when most senior staff in the civil service stuff the payroll with ghost names and those of their their wives and children until even the real ordinary worker cannot be paid his salary? What kind of believers are we? Do we at all believe in God?
Why does not enough exist in their dictionary? Why would those having billions continue to steal the very little that is budgeted for the drugs of the poor, for the water we will drink and for the wages others need to sustain their families with? How can somebody steal billions in the same month that he fails to pay even a single worker his token wage? Wannan rashin imani wallahi ya kai intaha.
Isn't this happening because we celebrate it when you find such thieves defended by some in public discourse without an iota of shame? Or when our traditional rulers, many of whom are partners in the thievery reward such criminals with titles? Or when we patronise them in quest of a portion of their ugly and disgusting wealth? Or when we fail to expose them and condemn their actions without any fear or respect?
Allah ka isan mana kan kowane barawo, azzalumi. Allah ka isan mana. Allah ka isan mana.
